Three conferences on painting in Gardanne in 2012

We prepared and gave three conferences on understanding painting where we sought to focus on the transition from one way of painting to another -- with emphasis on the transitional dynamic. The first conference explored the passage from antique/medieval painting to that of the Renaissance (which occurred in several countries). The second conference sought to compare the Renaissance and Baroque worldview. The third sought to analyze what happened when the French Revolution smashed the norms of court painting and gave way to Neoclassicism and the modern movements in Europe.

Art is perhaps better understood in motion than standing still. Are we now in a static period of art?
